The Olympics are coming to town

The sleepy Essex town of Waltham Abbey was awoken this morning to the unusual sound of bagpipes, church bells and busy crowds. The Olympics were coming to town, and it was Waltham Abbey’s time to say hello to the torch relay.

There was a great buzz around the town with a few hundred local residents armed with union flags. Even the sun decided to make an appearance (albeit short lived). The procession of Police, corporate vehicles and stewards eventually ended and we finally got to see what we had all got up early for, the Olympic Torch relay.

The two runners met and the the Torches ‘kissed’, and within the blink of an eye the Olympic flame had left Waltham Abbey onto it’s next leg of it’s journey as quickly as it had arrived. The next leg being a ride on the rapids at the Lee Valley White Water Centre.

Below are a few images of this morning’s events. Please feel free to share this link and leave comments.

I wasn’t too interested before but now quite tempted to go and view the torch relay when it passes my street at the weekend. Great set Pete. It is quite a big moment to record.

Nice work Pete! I didn’t get a chance to see the local torch rally but really wish I did now! Looks like you had a great spot too :)
